Todd Cordell: Calgary Flames Notes: Offer Sheets, Rookies & More - Todd-Cordell
The other part BigRoman isn't thinking about is that Kadri would have to want to sign an offer sheet. Just because someone offers one doesn't mean the player will sign it. Why would Kadri want to sign one with Calgary knowing that if the Leafs don't match he'll be there long term and have to live through a few more years of painful rebuilding? |

Another good point. There are a lot of reasons why Feaster is smart to just stand pat here. |

I hope no one offer sheets Kadri. He's my favourite Leaf after Kessel. He brings more to the table other than points, and that's hard hitting and getting under people's skins. He's not worth 4.5 now obviously, but if he has a great season this year, he would be worth it IMO. Calgary should offer sheet Alex P... |

Calgary should not be considering trading/giving up their 1st round pick under any circumstance. |

Not much of a risk. It's pretty rare for a team not to match. Even if Toronto doesn't match Kadri's still getting more money than he would have in Toronto. Although I think an offer sheet is one of the worst thing the Flames could do at this point. Just because of how valuable I think their draft picks will be. |

The only way Kadri would even consider signing an offer sheet with Calgary would be if its a massive overpay (like ROR). It would take an offer of over 5 mill with term. That would be silly of Feaster to even think about it for a second. |

Isn't Feaster the guy who offer sheeted O'Reilly after 1 good season at 6.5M??? |

No offer sheets! Our picks for the next couple of years will be high so we can acquire good talent that way.
I'm not sure what prospects will make the NHL. I would rather Monohan go the slow and steady route. But if he he makes a case for himself and proves his readiness, why not. I have no doubt he plays a few games to start the season. Knight and Bouma I expect to be part of the big club and either Cundari or Breen will like be the 7th D.
The only other player I'm still hoping CGY signs is Johnathon Blum. We still have enough vets on this team.
As for areas of depth and focus, we have good depth at LW, bottom 6 C and goal. Berra, Ortio, Brossoit and Gillies have all shown enough to make us believe we have something there.

you don't make offer sheets when your going to have a top 5 pick. let the leafs handle kadri, he's unproven, they can sink or swim with him |

All offer sheets are massive over payments. They have to be otherwise the other team will just match and there will be no point. |

Is getting Kadri worth paying him $4.5 million + per season as well as giving up a player like Sam Reinhart or Aaron Ekblad? I certainly don't think so.
Rather Kadri over Ekblad |

Any two players out there would be worth picks for offer sheets. Bogosian and johanson.
Both feel a hole with the flames, both have proven they can play. If bogosian was open, building a core around him and Brodie would be a great start. |

Neither one of those players are worth giving up the Flames 1st round draft pick. |

I think flames will get 4th next year.
If the last 20 was a good indicator, I think they'll spoil enough games to keep them out of the for sure lottery. It's the flames way, win enough to stay mediocre
